The Nürburgring racetrack in Germany is one of the most iconic tracks in the world. Why? Because it’s the industry standard when it comes to speed and performance. No matter what an automaker may claim, if it’s not tested at the ‘Ring, it’s usually not taken too seriously. But what about American cars? Just what are the fastest American-made cars to ever lap the ‘Ring? We don’t want to give away the entire list, but here are some of the top times and cars.
Breaking in the top five, we see two different Chevrolet Camaro models, two Chevy Corvettes, and a lone Dodge Viper ACR. Times ranged from 7:12.13 to 7:29.6, which is just out of the official top 10 when including all automakers. The last five cars that have broken through the top 10 barrier include another Camaro, Corvette, and Viper, along with a Cadillac and a Ford Focus RS. These times ranged from 7:37.4 to 8:06.20.
Now, you may be asking yourself: Where are the Ford Mustangs? According to Ford, they’re not in the habit of publishing those times. And while the Mustang is obviously absent from the list, we can’t help also wondering where the Dodge Charger and Challenger would fall if they had published times.
