2019 Infiniti QX50

The 2019 Infiniti QX50 debuted at the Los Angeles auto show, with sleek body lines and various high-tech features. Under the hood will be the first instance of Infiniti’s new variable-compression 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, called the VC-Turbo. The QX50 will also have a lighter and more rigid platform with high-strength steel than what’s under the current model.

The engine’s compression ratio is changes as the reach of the pistons is continuously raised or lowered, varying between 8:1 to 14:1. The high compression ratios are ideal for efficiency, and the low ratios allow for greater power and torque.

Total output is 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Standard front-wheel drive will deliver an estimated 27 mpg combined, while the optional all-wheel drive will give 26 mpg. Both will come with a CVT.

A suite of electronic driving aids, called ProPilot Assist, helps control acceleration, braking, and steering.

Pricing for the new QX50 will be announced closer to fall next year.
